(Jefferson County Democratic Executive Committee)JEFFERSON  COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY AWARDED GOLDEN GAVEL AWARD BY STATE PARTY

Four North Florida Counties Among Top Dozen Democratic Organizations

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Democratic Party awarded a biennial Golden Gavel award for excellence to the Democratic Executive Committee of Jefferson County, one of four North Florida counties recognized for outstanding accomplishments over the past year.

“We salute the Jefferson County Democrats for building an organization that can readily contribute to the support of Democratic candidates and initiatives,” said Florida Democratic Party Chair Karen L. Thurman.  “We're encouraged by what we've seen in Jefferson County– indeed all of North Florida. People want a new direction for America, and North Florida is going to pave the way for Democratic wave of change in 2008.”

“It's no secret that elections are won on the ground. Our activists, always passionate, are beginning to understand

that we must be organized and united to make major gains in the local, state and national elections next year,” said Jefferson County Democratic Chair Eleanor Hawkins. Chair Hawkins received the award from the Party during 2007 State Convention in Walt Disney World on October 27.

“Republicans have proven that their talk of family values is just that – talk. Their rampant corruption, fight against children’s health care, tax cuts for billionaires, and mismanagement of the war in Iraq reminds us that Democrats are the leaders that actually care about the people,” Chair Hawkins added. “We're making major strides in Jefferson County, and we’re going to need our Golden Gavel because our meetings just keep getting bigger.”
